Born in 1895 in Vresse-sur-Semois, Albert Raty is considered one of the greatest Ardennes painters of the 20th century. The Centre occupies the former Maison Bourgeois, built in 1875. This listed building has housed:

  • A shoe factory (1875–1920)
  • The girls’ municipal school (1925–1970)

Its transformation into an art center in 2015 preserved its historic architecture while creating modern exhibition spaces.
